WorldReach Software

Canadian company at the forefront of international child protection initiative

(Ottawa, ON – March 15, 2007)

Canadian company WorldReach Software has joined forces with the Permanent Bureau of the Hague Conference on Private International Law by sponsoring their work on international child protection.

As William Duncan, Deputy Secretary General of the Hague Conference explains “More than 30 years ago, the Government of Canada was the leader in proposing the development of an international treaty on international child abduction; it seems fitting to have another Canadian connection with WorldReach’s generous sponsorship to modernize the management and monitoring process of the 1980 Child Abduction Convention. The iChild project is a real testament to the concern and commitment WorldReach has in the area of international child protection.”

WorldReach created a customized version of its case management software known as iChild specifically for States Parties to the Hague Convention of 25 October 1980 on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction. Since it came into force more than 25 years ago, the 1980 Child Abduction Convention has become one of the most successful international treaties drawn up by the Hague Conference, with currently 76 States Parties representing all continents and many different legal traditions and cultures. It has greatly improved the protection of children internationally from the harmful effects of their wrongful removal or retention as well as secure protection for rights of access, and has contributed greatly to international cooperation in this area. iChild will help manage all essential information concerning international child abduction and access cases. In addition to helping countries manage cases, the system will report statistics critical to the monitoring process.

WorldReach President Gordon Wilson adds “WorldReach has seen the significant impacts of international child abduction through our work with consular organizations over the last 15 years. It is this very reason that led us to work with the Permanent Bureau to develop a system that would improve the management of these important and sensitive cases.”

WorldReach Software Corporation is the leading provider of consular management solutions. For almost 15 years, WorldReach products have been used by national governments for consular assistance, consular crises, and passports abroad. WorldReach products are licensed to over 700 sites in approximately 200 countries, including Canadian, British, Dutch, New Zealand, and Spanish headquarters and posts.

The Hague Conference is an inter-governmental organization whose purpose is to build bridges between various legal systems, and which has become a centre for international judicial and administrative co-operation in the area of private law, with a focus on family law, civil procedure and commercial law.
